FAQ about Biomecanics
The Elly Store carries the Biomecanics range both online and in store at One Holland Village, covering sizes EU21 to EU30, with our core range in EU22 to EU25.
Biomecanics is designed around a child's foot development from the earliest walking stages through more active, confident play, with the Biogateo and Bioevolution lines each suited to a different stage. Check the size chart on each product page to find the right fit.
Biomecanics Biogateo is designed for babies who are crawling, cruising or taking their first independent steps. The collection is generally suitable from around 9 to 24 months, although choosing shoes based on your child's stage of development is more important than age. The wide, flexible barefoot-inspired design carries the scientific backing of the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV).
Bioevolution is recommended for the maturation and improvement of gait in children aged 1.5 to 8 years, although choosing shoes based on your child's stage of development is more important than age. Biomecanics describes this as the “gait evolution stage,” when a child's physical activity increases and their feet need a shoe built to keep up. It is built to withstand intensive use while giving your child great freedom of movement.
Choose Biogateo while your child is still building the basics: crawling, cruising along furniture, or taking their first independent steps, generally from around 9 to 24 months. The priority at this stage is protecting their feet outdoors without getting in the way of how they naturally move.
Move up to Bioevolution once your child is walking confidently and spending more time in active, everyday play, generally from around 1.5 to 8 years. Bioevolution is built for that heavier use: running, climbing and full days on their feet, with more structure and durability than a Biogateo shoe is designed to handle.
If you are unsure which stage your child is at, go by what they are actually doing rather than their age. A child who is still holding onto furniture to stand belongs in Biogateo, while a child who is running around confidently is usually ready for Bioevolution.
The Biogateo collection is designed to encourage natural foot movement while providing the protection babies need when wearing shoes outdoors. Inspired by barefoot walking, it allows little feet to move freely while supporting healthy development.
Yes. They are built for breathability, flexibility and stability, which makes them a practical choice for daily wear, caged sandals for warmer days, and closed-toe styles for school or play.
